A Postpartum Doula is an emotional and physical support to mum and supporting family, usually starting within the first month of the babys life. Postpartum Doulas provide continuity of care helping you to relax and settle into life with a newborn. It is not a clinical role, instead Doulas work alongside midwives and healthcare providers. A Doula’s role is to provide fact based information - not to offer advice, and be a positive supportive presence for mother and immediate family.

You will come across Birth Doulas and Postpartum Doulas. Birth Doulas in large work antenatally, during birth and offer limited sessions postnatally. Postpartum Doulas support after birth, usually at home for a period of time to suit you. The support offered can vary greatly, I work with you to determine what support you need and do my best to provide this support within my remit.

As a Postpartum Doula I offer a discreet, reliable and trustworthy service visiting families at home at a time which can be joyous but also overwhelming and exhausting. My approach is kind, gentle and calm, I am respectful of your home being your personal space.

There may be may reasons why you decide to hire a postpartum doula, examples include - your partner not being around, family are not local, caesarean birth recovery, you (and your partner) are struggling with adapting to your new life with newborn, you are feeling overwhelmed or blue or you feel you could do with an extra pair of hands or someone to talk to, please do get in touch.

It is your decision when you would like my services to commence - as soon as baby is born or wait a week or two, up to you. Above lists ways in which I can offer support, If you have any other ideas in mind please ask, I am a doer - practical and flexible in my approach.

I love cooking nutritious, wholesome foods which aid the healing of the postpartum body. There is the option for cooking to be included at your home.

It is a condition of my services that one parent is always in the home with me during my working hours. I am not able to drive you / you and your baby. At present I do not offer over night stays.

Please do contact me with any questions you may have, I look forward to hearing from you, Virginia x

  • “Virginia was amazing during my labour. She supported me physically and emotionally. My labour & birth was intense but she kept calm throughout. She also made sure I felt safe and cared for. I couldn’t have done it without Virginia, she managed to catch my baby with my partner before the midwives arrived. I thank God that Virginia was available.”
