What is Reiki?…

A Japanese form of Alternative Medicine, Reiki is the Universal Life Healing energy which flows through all living things. ‘Rei’ translates to “Gods wisdom or the Higher Power” and ‘ki’ is “life force energy”. Therefore Reiki translates as “spiritually guided life force energy”. Reiki works on all areas simultaneously - the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies, allowing healing energy to flow freely throughout the body eliminating blockages, detoxifying and restoring harmony in the mind, body and spirit.

How I came to working with Reiki…

When I was very young I had heard a family friend talking about Reiki, I got a vague gist of what it was but no real full understanding. There was definitely intrigue there for it to keep popping to mind over the years but never time or enough desire to go there. Fast forward twenty or so years, I’m in the early days of being a full time yoga teacher running around London in and out of clients’ homes and studios and I can feel the physical toll. It doesn’t take long for me to be in agony with what turns out to be tendonitis in the hip. I gave in (eventually) and knew it was the case of resting up. This is when the idea of trying Reiki alongside resting seemed like a crystal clear idea. From being dubious and doubtful, there was no denying the sensations - warmth, hot, cold, tingling - a feeling of channels in my hip trying to unblock. Best way of describing it is like a blocked hosepipe, the water trying to push through the blockage. That was where it all took off. They say “the teacher appears when the student is ready” and it happened my wonderful (now) Reiki Master happened to be in town and that’s when I started working with her. I have allowed everything to unfold slowly, I undertook self-practice and enquiry for at least 3 years before I moved from Level 1 onto Level 2 meaning I was able to work on others. My dog Ruby and her little friend Romy love it - Reiki can be practiced on anyone or anything to raise their vibrations and promote health, relaxation, vitality and wellbeing.

Start with yoga to get things stretched out and moving, and then adding Reiki to tap into the universal force, promoting balance and restoration. A symphony of relaxation, addressing not just the physical but also the energetic and spiritual sides of your well-being.

This combination is the ultimate next-level healing and relaxation. I work with how you are in the present moment. This treatment is great for those who are in rehabilitation after an injury, I can encourage you with your at home physio exercises whilst adding Reiki hands on to promote healing. Equally great for those preparing to conceive, those who are pregnant and also postpartum aches and pains or those who are struggling with anxiety and depression.

Often, I offer restorative yoga poses using a variety of props including bolsters, cushions, blankets, bricks, straps and chairs to get you comfortable and aid relaxation whilst Reiki is given.

No previous yoga experience necessary. I am very used to working with those who are less mobile but are keen to introduce some movement and stretching.

 FAQs

  • Wear loosely fitting, comfortable clothes. You will remain fully clothed apart from shoes throughout the session. Please remove any chunky jewellery, dangling/hoop earrings, watches and glasses. Phones switched off please.

    For Yoga & Reiki, loose fitted clothing or yoga/gym wear.

  • I offer 60 minute, 75 minute or 90 minute sessions. I ask you to arrive 10 minutes before your session start time to allow you to settle in.

  • Try not to eat a big meal just before your session, ideally leave at least 2 hours. A light snack is fine. Please limit your consumption of caffeine ideally opting for water and herbal teas. After your session a light snack is fine but again its best to leave some time before eating a main meal. Please ensure you drink lots of fluid after your reiki session.

  • A short consultation will happen before I ask you to lie on your back, on the table bed fully clothed. A blanket may be placed over you if you wish. I will make sure you are comfortable. During the session your eyes will be closed and all I ask is that you breath into the lower belly, long slow breaths. I will move around the body, starting at the feet, placing my hands on areas of the body. I will be intuitively guided. After the session has ended I will bring you back into the room slowly and let you have some time to come round with a glass of water.

  • Exactly as is mentioned in the ‘What to expect in my first Reiki session’ the difference being you will be laid on your left side propped up with cushions and blankets.

  • Reiki is a safe, non invasive form of healing.

    Those with trauma may find some aspects triggering. We will discuss this in your first consultation. I can avoid certain areas of the body if requested.

  • I have a small space in Mirfield, West Yorkshire you are welcome to come to. Location depended, I may be able to come to your home.

  • Location dependent - sessions start from £60.
