Celebrating the Wonderful Midwives at Leeds General Infirmary.
In the last week I have supported a birth at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), Clarendon Wing and I was left in such awe of the midwives we came into contact with, I felt the need to sing their praises from the perspective of the Doula. The LGI is a renowned healthcare institution based in the centre of Leeds, West Yorkshire and it is home to a team of kind, compassionate and dedicated midwives who go above and beyond to provide outstanding care and support to expectant mothers and their families. They actively asked for, welcomed and respected mum and dad’s birth intensions and they welcomed me as Doula.
At the heart of the midwives' approach at LGI is a deep sense of compassion and kindness. They understand that childbirth is a profoundly transformative and vulnerable time for women, and they provide a nurturing and supportive environment to ensure their emotional well-being by listening and offering reassurance. Their empathetic approach fosters trust and allows women to feel safe and supported during one of the most significant moments of their lives.
Pregnancy and childbirth involve more than just physical health; they encompass emotional, mental, and social well-being as well. These midwives recognise this and encourage holistic support to women and their families. They recognise the supportive role of the Doula and welcomed that support into the birth. These midwives are committed to promoting maternal-infant bonding, mental health, and overall family well-being. Full breast feeding support was given ensuring mother felt comfortable and confident.
The midwives at LGI are wonderful individuals who play a pivotal role in the lives of countless women and families. Their compassion, expertise, and commitment to empowering women make them invaluable assets within the healthcare system.
